Donald Holder has been nominated for five Tony Awards and won the Tony for Best Lighting in 1998 for Disney's The Lion King, for which he also won the Drama Desk Award. Among the many Broadway productions for which he has designed the lighting are the revival of Les Liaisons Dangereuses set for May 2008, the revival of South Pacific for Lincoln Center Theatre, Cyrano de Bergerac with Kevin Kline, Radio Golf, Movin' Out, The Times They Are A-Changin', A Streetcar Named Desire, and Prelude To A Kiss. He has also desgned extensively for Off Broadway and for such operas as Grendel and Julie Taymor's The Magic Flute at the Metropolitan Opera. He is currently the head of lighting design at the California Institute of the Arts.
